Our Mission and Philosophy

Mission of the School Counseling Program

In keeping with our school division’s core purpose, the mission of the School Counseling Department at Monticello High School is to empower all students to reach their fullest potential, one student at a time.  By creating a safe and supportive atmosphere, we assist in meeting the diverse needs of our student population by building relationships and helping them acquire the skills and knowledge to become life-long learners, responsible citizens, and productive contributors to society.

Through the delivery of a comprehensive school counseling program, we will guide and help to meet the academic, personal, social, and career counseling needs of our students. We advocate for all students and help them to explore post-secondary opportunities specific to their interests and aspirations.

Philosophy of the School Counseling Program

Our Monticello High School counseling department has embraced a shared leadership approach in developing a results-based, comprehensive guidance program that reaches out to all students in grades 9-12.  Our main objective is to ensure that all students have access to support for academic, career, and personal/social development.  We are following the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) National Model, which includes a guide to the following systemic areas: foundation, management system, delivery system and accountability.  All of our school counselors are providing services in individual planning, responsive services, guidance curriculum and system support.
