Albemarle County will be transitioning from 4 year STEM Academies to 3 year Career Learning Communities in the Fall of 2023. Students currently enrolled in Grade 8 will not be applying to an Academy for the upcoming school year. Instead, students who are interested in participating in a Career Learning Community will be able to express interest in the spring of 2023 for the upcoming Fall. Our current model has students expressing interest during the spring of their 8th grade year. With the new model, the Class of 2026 and beyond, students will express interest during their 9th grade year.
During the Fall of 2023, ACPS will be expanding opportunities for students. We will transition from Academies to Career Learning Communities which will include new pathways for students. The Career Learning Communities will be aligned with the VDOE Career Clusters. These additional Learning Communities will provide students ongoing opportunities to identify and explore pathways and co-construct personalized learning plans alongside students who share interests and passions. Our current model is limited to only a few of these pathways and we are excited to expand our programs to serve more students. ACPS will continue to communicate with families as we move forward. You are welcome to check out additional information about High School Redesign by clicking here.
Current students in HMSA will experience very little, if any, changes. Course selections and program opportunities will remain the same for current HMSA students.
As we receive additional updates, we will share them with you on our website,
